Blog > Joint Core Strategy > Latest news regarding JCS proposals for 1,400 new homes in Churchdown

Over the last few issues of MyChurchdown Magazine, you will have read regular updates on the Joint Core Strategy (JCS) proposals to build 1,400 new homes in Churchdown (532 in North Churchdown and 868 in South Churchdown) up to 2031). The JCS comprises Gloucester City, Cheltenham Borough and Tewkesbury Borough Councils.

When the JCS consultation period ended, Elizabeth Ord (an Independent Planning Inspector), was appointed to consider whether the JCS was legal and sound. The Inspector scheduled hearing sessions to cover all aspects of the JCS, and these hearings ended in July.

The next stage in the process was for the Inspector to attend visits so she could see the North and South Churchdown proposed sites, and for her to have a conducted tour of the village to orientate her and show her the major landmarks.

The tour took place at 2pm on Wednesday 9th September, and lasted for one and a half hours. Attendees were: Holly Jones and Phil Bylo (JCS team), the Programme Officer from Gloucester City Council, two local residents, the Inspector and a representative from the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE).

The Inspector was taken on a circular tour of the village and this included the view from Chosen Hill, the schools, the Elmbridge Court Roundabout, the proposed sites either side of Pirton Court Farm on Pirton Lane, plus land next to Dancey Road off the B4063 Cheltenham Road East (South Churchdown site) and land next to Buttermilk Lane on Parton Road butting up to the edges of Staverton Airport (North Churchdown site).

The Inspector will now have to consider all the evidence, and write up her findings. Watch this space for further updates.
