Planning minister Nick Boles has announced a new set guidelines that councils will have to follow and these include a reaffirmed emphasis on protecting the greenbelt! Previous planning practice guidance documents have now been cancelled and are being replaced by the new guidance which can be viewed in the following link:

Take note of point 9 in regards to protecting the greenbelt.

In the plan he is re-affirming Green Belt protection, noting that unmet housing need is unlikely to outweigh harm to the Green Belt and other harm to constitute very special circumstances justifying inappropriate development.

He also said that while councils have to work together on a housing plan, that does not mean one authority can 'undermine government protection' and 'dump development on their neighbours' doorstep'.

At the moment the JCS will see more than half the houses built within Tewkesbury borough council.
